DOG EAT DOG BUTT!

Corporate America...everyone trying to get in, up, and firmly placed in some higher officials ass.
It irks me, yet I have become a part of it. I tried for so long to hold out on corporate America, bouncing from restaurant to bar to whatever didn't execute you on the spot for piercings and tattoos. I traveled around, teaching water aerobics in Saipan, then English in Japan, only finding myself right back in Charlotte scratching my ass and looking around in wonderment at how I ended up here. OK, playtime was over. It was time to get a "real" job. I mustered up the few connections I actually had and was able to land a job at a rehab. Boy, was I in for a shock. I wasn't expecting to be assimilated so fast into corporate America, and have to comply with actual rules. I almost got fired for independent ideas and my non-conformist ways. My boss said I was cold and distant, non-responsive to co-workers and clients alike. I traveled great distances on my own where anyone barely speaks any English, lived, integrated and thrived there...I could work in a rehab as a front desk coordinator. Then, the moment of clarity came. Something clicked. Kiss ass, be whoever they want you to be...would I be a sell-out? A drone with no soul? Would kissing ass get me somewhere in my life? I was bound and determined to try. I had to start nodding in agreement to things I didn't necessarily agree with. I felt like a bobble-head...A bobble-headed traitor. I remembered the astute words of my father, change something because if you do what you always did, you will get what you always got. I was prepared to try. So, I followed my boss around....asked if she needed any help....was at her beckon call. It worked. My job security is back. I now walk down the halls smiling like a step ford wife and commenting on how I love Kathy's plaid business suit and Jean's white topsider shoes. It feels fake, it feels plastic, but in life, it will get me where I need to go...up!
